HMI and Transmax agreement to share knowledge on Traffic Management, ITS and CAVs

We are very proud to announce an agreement signed today in Montreal at the 2017 ITS World Congress, HMI Technologies and Transmax, the ITS solutions provider who provide the award-winning STREAMS traffic management platform to states across Australia, have agreed to share knowledge on traffic management platforms, ITS and Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs). 

The STREAMS system is internationally recognised as world leading platform, and connects almost 50,000 devices across Australia's transport network. We have quickly established ourselves are a leading supplier of ITS technology in Australia and have several licensed products approved for integration with STREAMS, therefore we share numerous customers and it is improving customer outcomes and a convergence of transport technology which provided the impetus for the agreement. 

As ITS and autonomous vehicles are transforming the transport technolgy ecosystem, both organisations are motivated to ensure their respective technologies are enabling customers to deliver greater benefits for the communities they serve. 

For HMI Technologies, we have our own connected vehicle technology Ohmio Automotion under development, while our next-generation signs are well advanced in their development.

HMI Technologies and Transmax Partner to Explore Advances in Traffic Management, Intelligent Transport Systems and Autonomous Vehicles

Montreal November 1^st – HMI Technologies and Transmax have agreed to work together examining advances in traffic management, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and autonomous vehicles. The transport technology ecosystem is evolving on several fronts, and under this agreement, the three fields of innovation in ITS systems, traffic management platforms and autonomous vehicles will be examined together, with the potential for powerful world-leading improved customer outcomes the goal for both organisations.

Delivering safety and efficiencies potential of Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) by connecting them with traffic management systems through ITS infrastructure such as beacons and radar will be a key focus of the agreement and could lead to ground breaking results.

Transmax’s award winning STREAMS traffic management platform is already considered world leading, and Transmax demonstrates its commitment to ensuring it remains adaptable to emerging ITS technology and CAVs through working with innovative suppliers like HMI Technologies.   

The Transmax STREAMS system is an international class ITS product which delivers measurable results in safety and efficiency for its clients, state transport agencies across Australia.  Seeking cost effective ITS technologies to integrate with the system as it evolves is key.  It recognises that transport agencies are considering CAVs and how they will become part of the ecosystem. One current example would be that road operators can convey congestion and safety messages and alerts to drivers through variable messages signs, keeping traffic moving smoothly, passengers informed, and freight safe.  When CAVs join the fleet, the understanding and processes that humans provide will be removed from that equation.

Mark Williamson, Managing Director of Transmax explains the core motivation for entering the agreement, “The MoU will result in a closer degree of collaboration to enable innovation between each organisation’s product and services offerings. The goal being to realise additional benefits in enhanced operational efficiencies, new functionality, and improved customer journey outcomes”.

HMI Technologies is a leading supplier of Intelligent Transport Systems that has quickly established itself as an innovator in the Australian market with several products licensed and approved to integrate with STREAMS. HMI is also the lead partner in autonomous vehicle trials, working with government, commercial and research partners in Sydney and Christchurch, with another trial planned to begin in Melbourne soon.

HMI’s R&D team are also developing their own vehicles, and proving the capability to integrate with existing transport frameworks is key, as Dean Zabrieszach explains, “We identified that the transformative technologies of ITS infrastructure and CAVs were converging and that the two need to work in harmony to deliver on their full potential of safety and efficiency to urban environments.”
